Tent finished

My primary tent has now been made. It is very similar to my original with only the slightest of changes.

The doors now open "up" instead of "down". There has also been No-See-Um screens added to the doors for ventilation. No windows were added, at least at this time.

With just a little practice I can go from paddling to camping in under 3 minutes. In those 3 minutes I can set my paddle down, drop anchor, place my framework up, and have the tent set up and secure. It used to take my that long just to pull my boat up to high enough ground.

Just a Thought

Found these pictures from last week. This is my second tent concept. The top photo shows the basic outline showing size & shape as compared to the original triangle shape. My thought is that the small top would be a bimini with the actual size still up in the air. My "bimini" thought is for the still warm days of summer when the breeze wouldn't be a factor. There would be additional sides that could be added quickly. This design would not be as warm, wind proof, and rain tight, but it would be more roomy and open for the gentler of nights. It doesn't look like the Balogh will work if I want the top up.

It's Time to get Started

Over the next few days I'll be ordering material and hardware for my next tent. After hours (and hours) of R & D I've decided that my original design was pretty sweet. I'm fortunate to have a sister-in-law who is both a master of the sewing machine and knowledgeable about how to make odd things fit together. While the 2006 tent was super in being air-stream and water-tight it was a bit tight and small. We'll try to add a few more inches to both the height and width. I have a second tent/canopy design that I really like and will work on that after some other projects get finished. The second tent will be much larger, more open, and lighter, but that will be seen down the road. More to come...
